The Sturino Perspective, A View from the Street

George Orwell once said that, "Political language - and with variations this is true of all political parties, from Conservatives to Anarchists - is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind."

It's a good thing to keep in mind.

Those who live

above the fray

have little left

at end of day

beyond existence

and the passage

of time.

I wrote the poem on the left about a year ago.  At that time it seemed to me that far too few people allowed themselves to be bothered by the absurdities being played out in legislatures across the country.  The Republican gerrymandered distribution of voters had succeeded in putting enormous power in the hands of a small minority of political extremists, and even worse was the fact that even fewer people were in the streets (or even raising their voices) in protest. And, I could not comprehend how people could sit idly by and watch their voting rights taken away, the civil rights of huge groups of people being denied, and the whipped up fervor over people who were enticed to this country by greedy "job creators" go meekly challenged for lack of public outrage.

A cursory look at the demographics of the country today reveal something that I have not heard discussed anywhere, not on any TV or radio station, nor any newspaper or magazine. The truth being ignored is simply this. The same part of the population of this country that was once content with slavery is now unrelentingly trying to bend the nation to its religious will. This group is not content unless it can somehow hold sway over others.  They simply do not have the capacity to exist on their own, with control over their own lives, and leave the rest of us alone.

It was over a year ago that I wrote about the political atrocities that have become the norm in some states and the House of Representatives.  The utter and blatant disregard for well documented public opinion by these political bodies generated an anger in me that denied me the ability to think without obscenities. It has now gotten to the point where the only means I can envision for the majority of Americans to reclaim a government of the people is to initiate "Second Amendment" remedies.

Today I decided to join those apart from the fray.  Today, in obvious single minded self defense, I decided that I need a respite from the anger directed at Republican legislators across the country and in Washington, DC. Today my DVR does not record political programming, even of the comedic variety.

However, I am not without hope.   To paraphrase Lincoln, we are a ". . .new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. Now we are engaged in a great [legislative] civil war, testing whether that nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure.

As of now I will concentrate my efforts on household improvements, playing pool and spending time with  friends.  Later next year I will work toward an electoral rebellion in November and the beginning of a return to sanity in government.

Today, at the end of the day, I will be perfectly content with peaceful existence and the passage of time.
